   Two of my classmates did their EOTO about the Associated Press. I found out that one of my classmates Akeana shares the same birthday as the Associated Press. The Associated Press was founded on May 22nd, 1846 in New York.  It was formed by five newspapers to share the cost of transmitting news of the Mexican-American War.  The Associated Press is an independent global news organization dedicated to factual reporting. It is one of the largest and oldest news organizations in the world. The Associated Press operates as a cooperative which is owned by its contributing newspapers, radio, and television stations in the United States, which elects a board of directors to oversee the organization. The Associated Press plays a huge role in global media providing news coverage and having high standards of journalism.

      

Why is it Important?

The Associated Press is so important because it is one of the largest and most trusted news agencies globally, providing news coverage to thousands of newspapers, television and radio stations, and online platforms around the world. Its widespread distribution ensures that news reaches a diverse audience. This was what people wanted back in the day they wanted a news source they knew they could trust. Another reason why the Associated Press is important is that in today's time, I feel like a lot of Journalists have been taught to use the Associated Press regularly which sets a standard on how the Associated Press wants you to write and produce news as good as theirs and also to make sure what they are producing is correct. The creation of the stylebook truly has impacted the way we write and produce good stories.

What is it Used For?

Many newspapers, television and radio stations, and other media outlets rely on the Associated Press as a primary source of news coverage. They use the Associated Press stories to inform their audiences about important events happening either locally, nationally, or internationally. The Associated Press is not only used for news but in 1977 the Associated Press created a stylebook. This style book is used by journalists worldwide, and provides guidance on language, grammar, and journalistic standards, fostering consistency and professionalism in reporting. Today we still are using the AP stylebook to help enhance our language and writing.
